Clinton Advocates for Harris Despite Trump’s Economic Claims
Former President Bill Clinton made headlines at a rally in Muskegon Heights, Michigan, where he encouraged voters to support Vice President Kamala Harris, even acknowledging that some believe the economy was more favorable under former President Donald Trump. Speaking to the audience, Clinton stated, "I want to make three brief points. First, you did pretty well when I was president, and I think I’m entitled to my opinion about who’d be better. Second, I don’t think it’s right to say that people have to vote for Donald Trump just because the economy was better… I don’t believe that."
Clinton’s remarks come at a critical time as both the Trump and Harris campaigns intensify their efforts to appeal to voters, particularly in battleground states like Michigan. Polls indicate a razor-thin race, with Harris leading Trump by a mere 0.4 points according to the Real Clear Politics polling average. Meanwhile, Fox News Power Rankings classify Michigan as a toss-up.This isn’t the first time Clinton has faced scrutiny for his comments on the campaign trail for Harris. Just weeks earlier, he stirred controversy in Georgia when he remarked on the vetting of immigrants, referring to a tragic case involving the alleged murder of a local woman. He noted, "You had a case in Georgia not very long ago, didn’t you? They made an ad about it. A young woman who had been killed by an immigrant. If they’d all been properly vetted, that probably wouldn’t have happened."Despite these missteps, the Harris campaign brought Clinton to Michigan, where he rallied support alongside Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer. In response to Clinton's statements, Tudor Dixon, a Republican and former gubernatorial candidate in Michigan, commented that Clinton was simply stating a truth about the economy under Trump. Dixon stated, "Bill Clinton told the truth again when he admitted the economy is better under President Trump. Normal people buying groceries or school supplies know that’s true. I’m beginning to wonder if he’s secretly a surrogate for the Trump campaign."Nevertheless, Clinton expressed his strong support for Harris, stating, "I am here in Michigan to support Kamala Harris enthusiastically, and I firmly believe that she will be a better president than Donald Trump."
